OUR BIGGEST TRIP YET WILL BE TO...

October 1, 2022

ASIA! THE EAST! THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PACIFIC RIM!

That is where we are headed… literally as I write this. Our first country will be Singapore, which will require a 16 HOUR FLIGHT to get there! We could literally watch the entire Harry Potter series and still have time for a few hours of sleep in one, singular flight.

We aren’t quite sure what to expect from Singapore. It’s known mainly as an economic hub but with great food, diverse people, and wacky laws (chewing gum is illegal in the streets). But what else is there? Even though we are only in the city-state for five days, we are eager to do as much (maybe a bit jet-lagged) exploring as possible.

From there we will take a short flight to Thailand, the Land of Elephants, huge Buddha statues, spicy food, and rich culture.

This Asia trip is exciting for us because it’s a new region. We’ve done Europe. We’ve done Latin America. But Asia? That’s going to be completely different. Or, at least, we expect it to be. What assumptions do we have about it that will be proven wrong? Or does it depend on where you are? Like the “West,” is it a mistake to group together the dozens of countries in the “East?” Guess we’ll find out.

Above everything, we are hoping for the best, and preparing for the worst. We got a vaccine for something called Typhoid, a sickness resulting from bad food, this year’s flu shot, and the new covid booster. Fingers crossed that we stay healthy with the different bacteria and few mosquito-borne disease that you can catch.

VIDEO TO WATCH:

Our most recently posted adventure featured a super interesting natural phenomenon. Semuc Champey is a series of pools atop a limestone bridge which itself is above a roaring, underground river deep in Guatemala. Two rivers, one on top of the other? Yeah, we were confused too. But it was a really fun day learning about it and messing around in the park. You can watch here: https://youtu.be/EYAMDAfQj_s

TRAVEL TIP OF THE MONTH:

So, giving the advice to “find more advice” may sound silly, but I still believe it’s good…err… advice. Specifically, just knowing a few websites and newsletters to learn more about travel has made traveling better for Reyka and I, and so I figure it’ll probably help some of you as well! Here’s a list of good resources:

Do you have any feedback on how to make this newsletter more valuable for you? We are trying to improve our content and if you have anything you'd like to see more of or could do without, could you let us know? You can just reply back to this email.

Also, should we increase this email from monthly to weekly?

Anyway, that’s all for now. Your homework is to forward this email to a friend with no context just to see how they respond
